Crispy French Fries and Yam Fries Recipe

I love French fries, they are probably one of my favourite food groups, and I try to make sure I get at least one helping a day! These are delicious, better than fast food, and better for you! You can choose to do just regular potatoes or just yam, or do both, which is what I did!

Prep Time: 15-20 mins Bake Time:30-45 mins

4 good sized potatoes (I did 2 yams & 2 baking)
Canola oil
Olive oil
Salt & pepper
Garlic powder
2 tbsp corn starch


Preheat your oven to 350. Then peel the potatoes and slice them into French fry sized pieces. In a bowl sprinkle the first tbsp of cornstarch and mix them up, then do the same with the second tbsp. The cornstarch helps it get crispy. Coat the fries with oil, I like to do a couple glugs of olive and a couple of canola because olive tastes better and is better for you, but will be more likely to burn. Now sprinkle the spices (or any others you might want to try) and mix until they are all coated. On a greased baking sheet or foil, coat the sheet with canola oil and sprinkle with salt. Place the fries on the sheet in a single layer and cover with foil and put in the oven for 10 minutes. Then take the foil off and turn the tray around for another 10 mins. If the bottoms of the fries are brown, flip them onto the other side with a spatula (if they're not crispy enough, put them in for another 5 mins). Put them back in the oven for another 15 minutes, or until they are as crispy as you like them, and then gobble them up before anyone comes home so you don't have to share!
