Getting back to my roots

So we're back my friend Nathaniel's wedding in Toronto, which was all kind of surreal going back to 'real life' from this crazy past month. Also because anytime I closed my eyes I felt like I was back on the boat. The first night there they threw a huge cocktail party with everyone in this amazing huge house/mansion, with a bar and so much else. John got to meet all my friends from Winnipeg most that he hadn't met before because everyone's moved away. The biggest question we got was "where are you living?" which was a complicated question to answer because "on a boat" doesn't really explain it very well. So there was a lot of "What? Huh? How? Wow! Crazy!" responses. The party had amazing 'canap├ęs' John was obsessed with the mini grilled cheeses (with caramelized onions and pear-amazing!). Since we didn't have much time after we landed to the party John didn't have a chance to shave, so everyone got to meet him with his beard. Though I was surprised to see that most of my friends were also sporting beards.
Old friends
It appeared that we were staying in Little Jamaica and so the next day John went looking for a place to get a haircut and shave and there happened to be an abundance of African American specialized barbers down the street (really, there was at least 10 of these within only a few blocks, the competition must be intense!). John asked the barber if he would do some detailing, but he took one look at John and shook his head (thank god!). An hour and a half later (Johns haircuts tend to take max 20 mins, this guy was seriously detail oriented) John looked like a completely different person (so much younger!).
Classic barber shop (pretty sure Queen Latifa's back there somewhere)

The Bearded Man
The wedding was really beautiful, it was at the Fairmont Royal York and was so much fun. At the end of the night they had these little things of french fries with mayonnaise-so delish (do I talk about food too much?) It was so great seeing everyone from high school and Winnipeg, I hadn't realized how long it had been since I'd seen everyone. And only 1 person said that John shouldn't have gotten rid of the beard (though I think he might be bias as he has a pretty intense beard himself).

Clean shaven
The happy couple

It was nice to get back to Canada for a bit (also because I could get more seasickness patches since you need a prescription for that in the US), but it was time to go back to our home. When we got back to Norfolk we were unpleasantly surprised to see the unfortunate change in the weather. It was no longer hot and sunny, but cold and stormy. Really stormy. Not cool that the weather in Toronto was actually better than this, it's time to up your game Virginia! At least it was nice to get Dexter back! he was so excited to see us (even John) and I don't think I've ever seen John this happy to see him, I think he's starting to grow on him, finally!
